Introducing Period Tea Talks: A Five-Part Series with everything you want to know about supporting your daughter with her periods

Are you a mother and ready to dive into open, honest, and empowering conversations about menstruation? It’s time to break the taboo, share knowledge, and support each other in our menstrual health journey. I’m excited to announce Period Tea Talks, a five-part series designed for mothers and anyone wanting to learn more about menstruation, cycle awareness, and how to care for their bodies in the most supportive way possible.

After listening to enough mothers in the playground complaining about how they feel the education system doesn’t equip their daughters with what they need to feel empowered to have their first period I listened to the call and created this series.

Each session will focus on different aspects of menstrual health, providing valuable insights, tips, and tools to guide you through the different phases of menstruation and beyond. As a Menstrual Health Therapist I see first hand the complications that many young girls and women face around periods and it doesn’t have to be that way.  There is so much that we can equip ourselves with to support our bodies with this natural process.

Here’s a breakdown of each session which kicks off this 28th February, 2025 at Studio Sixteen in Petersfield (please note that if you’ve missed this first run of the sessions, contact me to be added to a wait list to be the first to find out when the next round is being held):

Session 1 – 28th February: Getting You and Your Child Period Ready

The journey to your daughter’s first period begins long before the event itself. In this session, we’ll focus on preparing both yourself and your child for this life-changing moment. We’ll discuss how to revisit your own first-period experience, reflect on your relationship with menstruation, and model a positive, empowering approach for your daughter. Additionally, we’ll look at signs of puberty and how to have open, honest conversations with your daughter about her body, her changing hormones, and the practicalities of menstruation.

This session will also cover how to prepare your daughter with the right tools, like menstrual products, and how to make the first period an empowering milestone rather than a daunting one.

Session 2 – 7th March: Supporting the First Menstruating Years

Once your daughter starts menstruating, it’s important to support her as she navigates the early years of her menstrual cycle. This session will focus on what to expect in the first few years, from irregular cycles to managing cramps, mood swings, and the emotional side of puberty. We’ll talk about how to introduce menstrual tracking, help her understand her body’s signals, and how to nurture a healthy relationship with her cycle. We’ll explore practices to do before and during the period to support the womb cleanse process.

We’ll also discuss when to seek medical advice if there are any warning signs of potential issues, so you can ensure her transition into menstruation is as smooth and healthy as possible.

Session 3 – 14th March: The Pill – Are You Sure It’s For You?

The birth control pill is a common option for many, but is it the best choice for everyone? In this session, we’ll dive deep into the pros and cons of the contraceptive pill, its impact on your hormonal health, and alternatives that may be better suited to your body and needs.

We’ll explore the potential side effects, the role of the pill in managing menstrual cycles, and what it means to take control of your reproductive health. We’ll also touch on other forms of contraception, such as the IUD, the implant, and natural family planning, to help you make an informed choice about what’s best for you and your daughter.

Session 4 – 21st March: The Menstrual Cycle as the Fifth Vital Sign

Did you know your menstrual cycle can be a key indicator of your overall health? In this session, we’ll explore how your menstrual cycle is more than just a monthly inconvenience—it’s actually your body’s fifth vital sign, alongside heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and respiratory rate. We’ll discuss how cycle tracking can help you understand your overall health, spot early signs of hormonal imbalances, and identify issues like thyroid dysfunction, PCOS, or endometriosis.
You’ll learn how to track your cycle, recognize different phases, and interpret your body’s messages to keep you feeling your best.

Session 5 – 28th March: Abdominal Therapy & Vaginal Steaming

In our final session, we’ll explore the benefits of abdominal therapy and vaginal steaming—two powerful practices that can support the health of your reproductive organs, alleviate menstrual cramps, and improve circulation.

We’ll go through the process of vaginal steaming, its historical use in different cultures, and the benefits it can bring, such as improved circulation and hormone balance. Additionally, we’ll discuss abdominal therapy techniques that promote relaxation, relieve tension, and support the body in healing. This session will give you tools to take charge of you and your daughter’s health in a natural, mindful way.
